Numbness in Face
Anybody who experiences numbness in the face, whether it’s
mild or something more severe, would normally be alarmed. Such
occurrence is associated with a lot of health conditions which
could be quite a cause for concern. However, the condition
could just be a result of probably an odd sleeping position, or
prolonged pressure on a certain area of the face associated
with holding the head to a certain angle for extended periods.
This type of numbness is mostly characterized with
pins-and-needles sensation but is short-lived and is not a
cause for alarm. Others who experience numbness in face much
more often, and with the presence of a few other symptoms,
might need to check with a medical professional immediately to
rule out any serious underlying cause.
Among the many
causes of numbness in face that needs some medical attention,
the most commonly experienced by people which lead to its
predisposition are injury, migraines, multiple sclerosis and
stroke. Some injuries, even minor ones, could cause certain
strains and impacts on some nerves on the neck or face. At
times, sudden movements may even result to a pressure on some
nerves on the spine which extends to the face, and could result
to this condition. For migraine sufferers, numbness in face
could be a precursor of an attack, or could be among the many
discomforts experienced with it. Since cause for migraine is
not yet fully understood, there is no cure for it and only
medications to relieve its symptoms are made available.
Diminished or lack of sensation on the face and to many other
parts of the body is also one of the many symptoms experienced
by those with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease characterized by
the damage of the myelin sheaths of the brain and spinal cord.
Mostly, if numbness in face is experienced on one side of the
face, it is an impending sign of stroke, or a result of a
stroke attack. If such numbness is caused by this condition,
medical attention is a priority since stroke is very
serious.
Though numbness may
not be serious in other instances, it is still not a normal
body process. Being watchful of the many signs your body is
giving out is of utmost importance. If taken for granted, it
might lead to something more serious which could have been
managed much earlier.
